Allowance Comparisons                       Articles

Think your allowance is to small? I certainly do. But before you burst into tears and email me your sulk story,
read this comparison between two different allowances. Save the complaining for your parents. After doing
some number crunching, see the difference. I hope this makes you feel better. </sarcasm>

Allowance 1: $140 per week (The American Dream)
It is equivalent of getting $20 every day.
It is the same as getting 80 cents every hour.
It is a sixth of the minimum wage.
In two weeks, I would make $280.
In one month, I would make $560.
In one year, I would make $7,280.
In a decade, I would make $72,800.

What I could buy:
In one year, I could buy 3 High-end notebook computers.
In one second, I could buy friends.
In one week I could buy 70 slices of pizza at a luxury place.
In one decade, I could rent a 300 sq-foot apartment for 6 years.
In two weeks I could buy an Xbox 360.
In one week I could buy a computer.
In two weeks I could buy a dog.
In one month I could buy a high-end camera.
In one decade I could buy 7,280,000 marbles.
In one month I could buy 90 Tee Shirts.
In one year I could buy two 48" TV's.
In a month I could buy 560 hair scrunchies.
In a two weeks I could buy 2,700 flower pots.
In one day I could buy 26 cookies.
In one week I could buy 517 pounds of sugar.

Allowance 2: $10 per month (my allowance)
It is equivalent of getting $0.35 every day.
It is the same as getting under 1.5 cents an hour.
It is 1/356 of the minimum wage.
It is the same as getting $2.50 a week.
In two weeks, I would make $5.
In one year, I would make $120.
In a decade, I would make $1,200.
In one year, Allowance 1 would make me over six times richer than Allowance 2.

How much time it would take to buy:
In 21 years, I could buy 1 High-End notebook computer.
In one second, I could buy enemies and ridicule.
In 1.5 years I could buy 40 video games.
In one week I could buy 1 slice of pizza at a luxury place.
In 600 years, I could rent a 300 sq-foot apartment for 6 years.
In 5 years I could buy an Xbox 360.
In one year I could buy a computer at a yard sale.
In two years I could buy a dog.
In 4 years I could buy a high-end camera.
In 606 years I could buy 7,280,000 marbles.
In 2 years I could buy 90 Tee Shirts.

And for those of you who say you're even worse because you don't have an allowance, that's
not true because your parents buy it for you. My advice: stick with the One Of Those And Those
And Those income plan with your parents. It might not have promos, and you can't buy
everything, but it's better in the long run, because it will probably be a long time before you
behave well enough to increase your allowance 560%.
